Last Minute Wedding Tips

There are many different reasons for a couple to get married last minute. Whether it be related to armed services, illness, pregnancy, or spontaneity, Chez Vous is here to help. We contacted Staten Island’s most popular wedding companies in order to find out what can be done if a couple has a deadline of one month to six weeks before they say “I do”. Some places have even said that they could throw together your wedding day goodies within 24 hours, keep in mind, this all depends on their availability.

From what we have learned, it is really easy to pull off a last minute wedding. The local businesses here on the Island are willing to work with the couple in order to help them have the wedding of their dreams.

The Dress

We spoke with our friends at Angel’s Bridal, Mary Ann, owner of Angel’s Bridal, told us that a dress would be ordered and altered within a month. They have even had cases were a bride has come in and bought a sample gown during their same day visit. This gown is from the David Tutera for Mon Cheri collection and features two big trends for the upcoming wedding season, laser-cut florals and champagne.

The Tux

You can purchase or rent a tux from Men’s Wearhouse within 24-48 hours. Thus, there should be nothing to worry about in terms of obtaining a tux before your big day.

The Bridesmaids

There are many ways to obtain a dress for your bridesmaids in a timely manner. Whether it be through a local boutique, or an online store like modcloth.com, your Bridesmaids are going to look stunning.

The Flowers

It is recommended that you book your florist as soon as possible, but most florists can accommodate a  couple within a week’s notice. Elizabeth, from Flowers by Bernard, told us that the reason why a florist needs a week to prepare is because some flowers need time to be conditioned in order for them to look the best they possibly can on your special day. The best flowers to use for a last minute wedding are roses and hydrangeas, they are readily available and have a short conditioning time.

The Cake

Isabella’s Creations is one of the best wedding cake designers on the island. If given a minimum of a week, they can create a cake for your special day like this one below.

The Invitations and Reception Art

From your invitations to your table markings to your guest book, it can be overwhelming trying to find time to sit down and create these items during the whirlwind of preparing for your wedding. Matthew from Plum-Paperie told us that a couple’s best option is to go with a simple wedding invitation in order to get them out as soon as possible to your guests. Instruct your designer to go with a plain background and fancy text to make the invitations look simple, yet elegant.

Once your invitations are out, you can shift your focus to designing your placeholders and other miscellaneous reception art. By visiting your graphic designer first, it will give you more time to focus on the bigger details of your wedding, and you will be able to receive custom designs to really make your wedding reception stand out.

The Centerpieces

The best way to get centerpieces ready for your special day, while staying on budget, is to do them yourself. The Knot has a wide array of DIY tutorials and solutions to transform everyday items into stunning showstoppers.

s

The Photographer and Videographer

Local photographer and videographer, Sebastian Barbera, informed us that bridal bookings are typically done six months to a year in advance. However, if a photographer has an opening, they will be more then willing to accept a booking up to four days to a week before the wedding. Some photographer and videographers are even known for booking weddings within 24 hours of the ceremony! While this is not common, it does happen.

Good places to reach out to photographers and videographers alike is The Knot, Mandy.com, and Craigslist.com under creative gigs and crew gigs, or your local yellow pages. However, Barbera recommends using Facebook to find a photographer in a pinch since you can view their work and contact them much easier then if you spent hours searching for them through Google or your local yellow pages. Barbera is still accepting bridal bookings for 2016, so if you need a last minute photographer or videographer, reach out to him through IndependantCinematics@gmail.com.

4 Ideas for a Love Themed Wedding

Six million is the number of people who expect or are planning a marriage proposal on Valentine’s Day. Of those people, about six thousand of them will be married on Valentine’s Day. We decided to put together a list of four things that we feel are essential to anyone who is planning a love themed wedding. Love themed weddings are weddings that centralize around the idea of love. They may or may not be held on Valentine’s Day, although most of them are not since many couples select this theme. And the color scheme typically incorporates red, pink, and/ or white. While some include contrasting colors like blue or green.

1) Serve Up Some Classics with the Food

11894567_921791247892489_2064406013795111318_o

When it comes to selecting your menu for a love themed wedding, most couples start with the desert in being that it is one of the most exciting parts of the process; you get to relax and eat cake. We recommend going with a red velvet cake in order to stick to the colors of this theme which are red, pink, and white. As for your main dish, you can choose from our extensive wedding menu. We would recommend selecting either the Grilled Salmon with a Garlic Basil Sauce, Scimp Scampi Oreganate, or the Bonless Breast of Chicken Florentine topped with Spinach and Mozzarella. The vibrant colors of these dishes will help to tie your theme of love together.

2) Be Experimental with the Table Setup

flowers

When it comes to setting your table there is a lot to consider: the color of your linens, napkins, what kind of silver ware, and what kind of flowers to place. The example above shows an ombre flower arrangement, pale pink linens, simple white china and silver ware, and no napkins. The cups are also pink and red. We feel that the above look is very modern and is a perfect representation of bringing the love theme into the modern day.

3) Tie it all Together with the Accessories

shows

Figuring out how to accessorize not only your outfit, but the outfits of your bridesmaids, your groomsmen, the groom, and the bride can be difficult and overwhelming when there are so many things to take into consideration. You don’t want to overload on the color scheme, but you also don’t want things to be disjointed, there needs to be harmony. The best way to achieve it is to add pops of your red, pink, and white in the accessories. For example, your bridesmaids could wear red shoes with blue dresses, your groomsmen can wear navy suits with a light pink tie and red handkerchiefs, the bride can wear a pale pink dress with blue shoes, and the groom can wear a navy suit with a red tie and a pink handkerchief. The colors of your theme are balanced with the cold tones which gives your wedding party a more polished, modern look.

4) Get Creative with the Wedding Favors

SplitShire-4269-1152x759

The final element which will bring your theme full circle are the wedding favors that are handed out to all of your guests. You can hand out red and pink m n’ms, heart shaped candies, picture frames that say love on them, or lucky bamboo grown into the shape of a heart with a pink and red ribbon tied to it. Let your imagination run wild, and bonus points for if you incorporate your gift into the table setting.

We hope these tips will help you in planning your upcoming love themed wedding on Staten Island. Chez Vous Caterers is dedicated to helping couples who are engaged to plan the perfect event. We are a catering company located on Staten Island that offers catering in our lovely, historic hall, Edgewater Hall located at 691 Bay Street. 7 Bridal Trends for Fall 2015 and Resort 2016

After looking through countless runway shows from the Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 bridal shows, we cannot be more excited about this season-s bridal trends! Top designers, such as Oscar De La Renta, Vera Wang, and Prata, have out done themselves this fashion season with their innovative twists on some modern classics. Below, are the top 20 trends for the 2016 Wedding Season.

1) Fringe and Feathers

Feathers were originally used for ornamentation on headbands and masks, but in the 1920s the feather was used in dresses and skirts to provide more movement to the garments. This gown by Lela Rose is a prime example of how to pull off this look. The feathered skirt paired with the corset bodice is absolutely breathe taking.

lela rose feathers

Fringe, much like feathers, was huge in the 1920s and made a slight resurgence in the 1960s and 1970s during the hippie fashion movement. This dress by Naeem Khan is a great way to pull off fringe in a fun, classic way. Having the gown stop before the knee is a great way to be both fun and flirty for your special day.

Out of all of the fringe gowns that we have seen this season, this gown by Pronovias is perfection! The movement of this gown as you walk down the aisle will leave all of your guests breathless.

2) Separates

The crop top originally made its debut in the 1940s as a way for women to show a little more skin in a conservative manner. The tops originally had collars and only showed off a small portion of a woman’s upper waist, this allowed the hourglass figure of a woman to be emphasized. Since then, the trend has broaded since the 70s and 80s to show the midrift of a woman. This particular gown, designed by Stone Fox Bride, is remnant of the 40s rendition of the crop top, but is done in a high fashion manner as shown from their 2015 Fall collection.

The pantsuit was first worn by women in the 1920s, but was seen as being unlady like. It wasn’t until the 1960s, when Yves Saint Lauren, made the pant suit a desirable outfit by women of the era. Today, the pant suit has evolved and is worn by many celebrities. Brides have taken a liking to this trend because the look is a sophisticated option for any bride who is not a fan of wearing a gown. This one was designed by Temperley London.

Ballgowns have always been a popular option among brides, these separates were designed by Pronovias. This is a perfect blend of masculine and feminine for any nontraditional bride.

3) Corset Bodices

A corset was a popular choice for women in the 16th and 17th centuries. Oscar De La Renta‘s interpretation on this classic piece is one of the reasons why you will be all over this trend. The dress has a hyper feminine silhouette and will flatter any body type as it creates an hourglass figure and hugs a woman’s curves.

oscar corset

This lovely corset also plays off of the ice blue trend with the ivory color fading into a luscious ice blue at the bottom. Designed by Claire Pettibone, this gown has wonderful movement and flow.

4) Flouncy Sleeves

Sleeves were huge this past runway season, and many designers went outside of the box with the types of materials they used. The flouncy sleeve gives the garment more of a romantic look and really brings attention to elongate your shoulders and makes the bride look more confident and radiant as she walks down the aisle. This dress, designed by Claire Pettibone, was one of the standout dresses for this trend.

5) Cutouts and Laser-Cut Florals

Cutouts became popular in the 1970s and 80s as a way to further enhance the crop top. Today in fashion they are a great way to emphasize the smallest part of a woman’s waist in order to make her appear slimmer. This gown, designed by Anne Barge, combines the cutout trend with a metallic bodice which creates a very chic look. Perfect for any black tie themed weddings.

This romper takes the trend and goes it in a more subtle, sexy way. Designed by Gemy Maalouf, this romper is perfect for any nontraditional bride looking for comfort and style.

Ice blue, cutouts, and the floral-laser cut pattern?! Can you say #TrendOverload?! This gown is simply stunning and is genious designed to be in for many seasons to come. Designed by Monique Lhuiller, this is our top pick for the season.

6) Deep V

This trend began in the middle east and has since spread across fashion and has been adopted in various different ways. This type of gown is great for accentuating the neckline and for showing off the girls. This gown, designed by Alon Livne, combines the metallic and deep v trend to create a stunning dress that we would definitely say yes to.

Numbering Your Table With Style

pink-petals-table

As we have touched upon in past posts, your wedding should be the event you have always wanted it to be. We’re not saying to go nuts outside of your general budget, but, by all means, get creative and invest in interesting and celebratory decor. Especially when it comes down to the table numbers.

One way of jazzing-up your reception is in relation to the tables.

According to Southern New England Weddings, there are quite a few ways that you can re-use or re-purpose various tools around your house to be used as decorative table numbers; an example of something that is seemingly ho-hum that can bring an extra spark of style to any table.

First thing you can use to brighten the decor of your table are napkin rings.

numbered-napkin-rings

By using numbered napkin rings to denote seating arrangements, it provides for simple functionality as well as a fun way to give your guests a cool, little party favor.

numbered-napkins

Moving one step away from napkin rings, just napkins. While not as tactile of a gift for party-goers, It can still be a practical approach to table seating. Also, depending on the type of cloth you use, your guests may actually be reminded of your wedding by using their number 4 napkin to wipe their face down for years to come.

floral-wedding-centerpiece

Having a beautiful, numbered centerpiece, whether it be a candle arrangement housed in beautiful flowers or a glass bowl filled with water and floating candles (Candles are always a good constant), raffling-off one of these elegant centerpieces at the end of the night is sure to make the winning guests go home with more than just fond memories.

white-wine-with-custom-label

Finally, for the ultimate touch of class, one might seek to go for numbered wine bottles. A bouquet of fresh flowers is fine, but it might tend to be something reserved just for the ladies. A fresh, sparkling bottle of vino on the other hand, can please even the most-discerning of male or female palettes.

We hope that you might take any of these tips to heart, and remember, if you are looking to plan a wedding or event, contact chez vous caterers and party rental for all your planning needs.
